How texture effect on photos

Texture is commonly known as many kinds, such as sharp, rough and hard, but texture can also be smooth, cold, warm, wet and dry, in fact any tactile sensation we can imagine is a texture (Kynin 2009). For instance, how people learn to discriminate different life standard. The image with dark colour, like dark blue and gray could show the feel of loneliness and a desolate scene on all sides. But if we use light colour and smooth photoshop skills, even with a luxurious flat, how people cannot be persuaded as it’s a high quality life standard in some rich area. Also, using different textures can increase interest in a composition without changing color or object. While texture can make an image more interesting it is not a strong enough element to be useful for organizing a composition (Saw 2002).

Firstly, one of the most important elements in using on photos is colour. Colour is a human sense ability, which effect human mind and attract people on some objects. An appearance aspect caused by the spectral composition of see light and it quite different with form, shape, size or gloss. A formal agreement method was explained that explorers combine spectural data with a model eye, and if correct, a model light source to make a set of three numbers which create the colour uniquely. Colour also can appear differently during the whole context, or illumination levels. For example, the falling yellow leaves could indicate the summer is coming, meanwhile, the green and flourishing grass with colourful flowers must be showed the spring. Another example, if the advertisement poster need to attract customer to buy the fresh fruit, absolutely, the colourful one must successful than the black and white one.

Secondly, in the high speed technologies develop time, 2D and 3D had become a new pattern form to attract people’s eyes. As Sanders identity that three-dimensional models can create amazing levels of detail, not only in sculpted shapes, but also in texture. Some animators even use photographs of the textures they are trying to create simply captured and then altered to make seamless repeatable patterns. Hence, we could always see the model’s hair is shinning and smooth which by the after-create, rather than their individual strands (Sanders, about.com).

You can provide the pleasure for people of feeling like touching the objects by the representation texture in your pictures. Texture can be used to create character and give realism to a picture and be the center subject of a photograph. When texture is used as a secondary element within the picture, it lends strength to the main idea in the photograph(About.com 2000

Web site analysis

The website of ‘The Friends of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH)’ is a secondary page of TQEH’s website. As a non-profit organization, the purpose of the Friends of TQEH’s site is to attract more volunteers aged 30 or 40 years to this organization. Although this site is easy to navigate, some problems of the presentation and organization of the information should be addressed. That is, the site is simple, but lack of visual design. The information is not organized well which decreases usability and some accessibility problems should be addressed as well.

Visual design is one of the important factors in the success of web site design which refers to the colour, font and page layout. ‘The theme will be expressed in the content: the words, images, and overall appearance’ (Farkas &Farkas, 2002). According to Sklar (2003, pp.31), designer should ‘plan the unifying themes and structure that will hold the pages together.’ The theme of this site is hard to know which means it is hard for users to know the impression this organization wants to convey. The current website doesn't have the organization’s logo and the layout is lack of characteristic. Although the website is unified by using same font, colour and layout, the theme of the site is still not created. Blue is used as the main colour of the website which is hard to represent the theme of friendly and warm. The site should use more happy and warm colours to represent its theme. The logo should be placed in the site in a reasonable size and noticeable location which can make users easily to recognize what this website is. ‘It should be larger and more prominent than the items around it so it gets first attention when users enter the site’ (Nielsen &Tahir, 2002).  Also, it is hard to recognize the name of the Friends of TQEH. The size of the name is too small and can not get the first attention. Moreover, on this site, almost all elements are left alignment which reduces visual interest. The contrast between the headlines and body text is not significant on this site.

Magazine layout & design

from Shun Kawakami
Newspaper or Magazine
Newspaper and magazine are two different style of reading, especially on their marketing targeting while newspaper are aim to the age between 30-60 and magazine would like to attract more young reader.

Newspaper: pieces of all sizes, but especially under 900 words
Magazines: 500-3500 words

Newspaper: Punchy short informative
Magazine: Gratifying, longer

Newspaper: Extremely correct grammar and punctuation
Magazines: More relaxed grammar and punctuation

Newspaper: Anything that is news
Magazine: Anything that makes you feel good, informed

Newspaper: Highly competitive
Magazines: Just say something old in a new way and you will get it

Therefore, a magazine designer have to become more inspired, more creative to design a successful one. Walsh(2006) suggest that in the western culture, people usually read from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. Parker and Berry (1998) have also suggested that reader should encounter a logical sequence of event when they are reading your publication. Therefor Shun arranged her magazine layout by putting the title on the top left cornet and other information below in logical sequence in order to create a guide line for readers to read efficiently, logically and comfortably.

from google

Also, according to Reep(2006), using design elements in design can increase the overall impression of the layout, for example eye catching graphics can keep readers focus on information that they need. This Simpson take almost one page large size on the cover which can attract not only child reader but also adult people. Morever, Reep(2006) argued that the use of whitespace and typography could guide readers through the text by directing attention and highlighter section. Therefore, in the magazine, the designers have used different font size, colour, space between each paragraphs and also white wpace to guide the readers to read teh article.

Advertising on Mobile Phone

Recently, Google has acquired PostRank, which calls itself "the largest aggregator of social engagement data" in the analytics industry. It enables social media user to measure and monitor the reach of their content-like Facebook posts and Tweets across the Internet. Why they are seeking a business which can help users monitor their social message more convience. The figures showed that there are over 92 million mobile users in the U.S. and 142 million users globally. That indicate the mobile phone  business has already become the most important commerce while every technology company want to make money on it.

iPhone is a line of Internet and multimedia enabled smartphones designer and marketed by Apple Inc. You can seach the Internet, check the Email, read the news everytime and everywhere by toching the screen. At this time, advertiser will consider how to make their money via this huge potential channel. Cell phone advertising is considered the next big thing, and the advertisers are closely watching the mobile phone user segment(2011). Compare with advertising on TV, radio or emails, the mobile phone never goes unnoticed. We check every text message that comes in, we respond, we make calls, and do a lot of other things in our phone. Advertisers say that an ad in teh cell phone is most likely to get a response than any other form of advertising(2011).

There are few reasons based on which marketers think cell phone advertising could be more successful than the other conventional froms of advertising(2007).
  • The cell phone is always with us
  • The ads can get very peronal
  • The ads are smal, yet effective
  • Location-based advertising is another possibility with mobile phones
  • The strength lies in sheer numbers
Advertising on mobile phones

According to Frost and Sullivan, an international consultancy, the number of mobile phone subscribers in teh region jumped from 677.5 million to 826.6 million between 2005 and 2006 alone. Their study also show Kprea has the world`s highest percentage of mobile users on the 3G network and is the second largest mobile market in terms of penetration in teh Asia-Pacific ares(2008). Therefor, advertiser transfer their business to Aisa.  In order to get an advertisement to the mobile screen, advertiser have to convince their customer not only watch the video but also willing to purchase on that product. For example, in Australia, Vodafone is allowing customers to surf content on their phones, ranging from mobile TV shows to enterainment guides, for free, as long as customer are viewing ads(2008).

Nowadays, mobile phone gradually replace TV which people spend most of their leisure time on watching it, by connect to Internet, users can easily find what they want on their phone. Therefor, advertisers maybe spend more money on this business in the future.
